Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Columnaris

The Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is a slow-growing conifer with upright, compact growth. The leaves are blue to silver-gray, which is why the Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is often called blue spruce, but it is not blue spruce. The Chamaecyparis 'Columnaris' looks best in a tight hedge, but can also stand as an eye-catcher solitary. The Chamaecyparis 'Columnaris' is best planted from the end of September to the beginning of May, in a dry to moist spot in full sun or partial shade. It is advisable to fertilize the Chamaecyparis 'Columnaris' in the spring and prune in June.
